So the biggest question I have after reading this passage is: Why didn’t Valentine Kill Luke? I mean, Valentine vehemently despises all Downworlders, and if my theory that Valentine intentionally set up Luke is actually correct. Then it would make perfect sense for Valentine to use the excuse of Luke being turned into a werewolf as a way to get rid of his primary rival.
But instead of getting rid of Luke after he’s bitten, Valentine instead just lets Luke stay in his house for fews days. When Luke actually turns into a werewolf, Valentine just sends him on the way! This literally makes zero sense actually comes directly in conflict with Valentine’s entire character’s motivation.
Now, some would argue that Valentine didn’t kill Luke because, despite their differences, he truly cared about Luke and couldn’t kill him. You see that would work if Cassandra Clare was generally trying to make Valentine three-dimensional villain. Unfortunately, all the evidence so far points to Valentine being a sociopathic killer who has no real ability to truly care about anyone but himself. For Valentine, everyone including his precious Jocelyn are just objects to be used and then discarded as needed. So this excuse really doesn’t have a leg to stand on at all.
My only conclusion is that much like his followers, Valentine is yellow-bellied chicken shit. I bet you that Valentine is just as afraid of getting into a fight with Luke now that Luke is.now a super powered Downworlder that could d possibly match or even overpower Valentine in a fight.
So in conclusion: Valentine once again proves to be just an inept villain with delusions of grandeur.
