See this is where this chapter and my feelings about it gets a little murky. I really feel a little conflicted about these snippets, in particular. Luke explains that while Valentine was in school, he created his own cult. And on one side, I can understand why no one would stand up to him, or why no one would report him to The Clave. Indocutaration and mind-washing is a real and horrible thing. I can also understand in another way why Jocelyn stayed as long as she did. I empathize with her situation, it’s very hard to break away from an abusive relationship.
However, there is another part of me that feels that Jocelyn and Luke should have diffidently gone to the Clave and told them what was going on. And again, if they couldn’t tell the Clave face to face, it would have taken less than nothing to just send a message to them anonymously.
With the information, The Clave could have put a stop to Valentine way before he even escalated into attacking the Accords. I think for anyone with a conscious would have seen Valentine torturing a little girl for information on her brother as the ultimate deal breaker.
Yet, Jocelyn and Luke waited forever to do anything. And no one said anything to the Clave. A big part of me feels that someone stood up and done something. Yet no one did, they just sat on their asses and did absolutely nothing. I’m going to sum up my thoughts with this quote:
