So one of the biggest reasons hardcore TMI stans give for the series being better than Twilight is that there are plenty of strong female characters. However, I have come to the conclusion that the female characters in this series are faux strong female characters. They may kick ass, but they either are two-dimensional with little personality (Isabelle) or they stand up for themselves for a moment and speak their mind, but then later apologizing.
What makes Clary’s pattern of behavior so much worse is that it’s reinforcing the thought that a woman has to constantly apologize or feel sorry standing up for herself.
This is Cassandra Clare’s faux feminism at it’s best.So yeah, Clary and Isabelle can fight right alongside the men, but to me what makes as strong female character is someone who not necessarily just fights physically for. She also fights for what she believes me in, but the character is also also a fully fleshed out, A strong female actually stands up for herself and sticks by her own convictions.
Yet, only Clar fits one of those standards. So again, despite all the protests to the contrary by Clare and her stans, Clary is just basically Bella Swan with strawberry blonde hair.
