Oh my god, just what is this nonsense? This is the second race of Downworlders I have seen, and they are both living in abandon places. Do I even need to tell you how racist this is? The Shadowhunters have these beautiful estates, but the Downworlders (who I would like to remind you are an obvious allegory for people of color) are homeless squatters. Yeah, we have seen outliers such as Luke and Magnus, but this is the second time we have seen huge groups of Downworlders living in such a way. And I can’t help but see the pattern and the obvious racism.
Let’s move on from that and now let’s talk about how apparently the werewolves occasionally take food orders from their abandoned Chinese restaurant. Cassandra Clare never considered the fact that any restaurant or food service in the city is instantly subjected to not only to food inspection but also the city’s zoning laws. Even food cart and food trucks in the city have to pass health inspections to operate legally in the city. Also, I don’t know for sure, but I think it is pretty illegal in most states for people to reside in a commercial zone. So in a logical and sane world, one of their rare customers could have easily reported them to the authorities.
At the very least, The Werewolves would have been kicked out of their home and at the worst they could have been arrested and fined. And I also have to point out that the interior set up of a police station and the interior set up of a restaurant are very different. So where exactly are they cooking these meals, in the break room? Most break rooms don’t have stoves and ovens.
The thing about this passage and the setting itself is the more you examine it, the less it makes sense.
