First off, we are currently in the last freaking chapter of this book and WE ARE ONCE AGAIN JUST SITTING DOWN FOR STORY TIME! What is Cassandra Clare’s fucking obsessions with giving her audience useless exposition? This especially pisses me off because this comes right after we had AN ENTIRE FUCKING CHAPTER OF EXPOSITION!!!
My other big grievance with this passage is how every time Clare tries to build up Valentine to be a big bad, she immediately follows it up with something that shows why he is such a terrible villain. Valentine just admitted that he went into hiding and that the only reason he abandoned his alias as Michael Wayland was because HE WAS FREAKING BLACKMAILED INTO DOING IT.
Valentine also to proved himself to be a huge hypocrite. He talked all this shit about how Jocelyn abandoned their son. And then Valentine went and did the exact same thing! Yet, no one, not even our oh so clever and plucky heroine ever calls out Valentine on his blatant hypocrisy.
The last thing I want to discuss is how once again The Clave proves to be a direct parallel to Valentine’s own incompetence as a villain. Seriously, I said it a dozen times by now but it bears repeating: THE CLAVE HAVE TO BE THE MOST INEFFECTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY EVER. Seriously, they never tried to arrest Michael Wayland after the failed attack on The Accords. They never tried to track him down and so they can bring him to justice. They just let yet another criminal go with just a slap on the hands.
What really infuriates me about the Wayland mess is that this whole farce of a plot could have been avoided if The Clave actually got up off their asses and did their freaking job for once!
