Trigger Warnings: For child abuse.
Normally, this speech would garner some sympathy from me. Despite the fact that I tear this series apart for shits and giggles , I’m really not a heartless shrew. However, you remembered a few chapters back when I talked about how abuse (even at this level) is not a get of jail free card? Yeah, this applies to this passage. Why? Because he’s been gleefully bragging about basically mind raping a child not just once, but throughout her entire fucking childhood!!! So again, the moment Magnus decided to hurt someone, my sympathy for him just went right out of the window.
I know that Magnus is the fandom’s favorite character, and when people love anything their first instinct is to defend it. Hell, I’m guilty of doing this myself. However, I actually had people argue me down about Magnus feelings about the mind rape. Some people actually told me that Magnus does feel remorse, and is not bragging about it because it’s obvious that his bragging is just a front. Look over this and the previous sporkings. Take off your stan glasses folks, and try to look at this objectively.
Take care to especially take in the tone of Magnus’s dialogue. Does, that sound like he actually feels any type of remorse for what he did to Clary? No, it feels like’s bragging. Hell, Magnus actually mentioned at one point at how proud he was at how well he did the mind blocking spell.
So yeah, I feel sorry that Magnus had to go through that, but that does not excuse his actions.
Now, I want to move on from this fuckery, on to something else: Magnus’s race. I told you guys back in Chapter 12 that Magnus’s description doesn’t make any sense, especially his race. Magnus mentions killing his father, but Magnus is a warlock and by definition is the son of a demon. So who is Magnus referring to when he is speaking about his father in this passage? What exactly are the conditions of his conception? I guessed that his mother was a maiden that was seduced and then she got pregnant Yet, here Magnus is mentioning killing his father.
What is so frustrating about this passage, that once again it would have literary took a word or two to clear this up if Clare actually made the freaking effort to do so.
Also, again I ask the question: Why is Magnus physically biracial? His father was a demon, and even if Clare was trying to state that Magnus’s human father was somehow able to pass on some of his genetics to Magnus, Magnus should in all rights still look like he is fully Indonesian. It’s like everything else in this damn book, the things that should make sense, don’t! All I want is for something to actually make sense in this book for freaking once!
*tears hair out and storms away*
