If Valentine is an inept villain, then The Clave have to be truly inept heroes. They will go down in the history of literature as the most incompetent law enforcement unit I have ever had the unfortunate luck to read about!
I thought The Clave totally ignoring Clary, even though she was at best their most valuable witness, and at worst an agent of Valentine was completely ridiculous a few chapters ago. But at least they were ostensibly trying to find Valentine and stop him.
Back when they preparing for the Accords they must have heard rumors that Valentine and The Circle were around and breaking their laws. Yet, they did absolutely nothing!
Although, I do admit that it is possible that The Clave didn’t even know about The Circle. In which now I have to ask: Does The Clave have an intelligence branch at all? Say what want to say about The C.I.A. and The F.B.I. but they have for the most part (with a few notable exceptions) have their agents on the active lookout for any news, or rumors about any recent terrorist activity. And that is what exactly what The Circle is. They are a fucking terrorist organization! An organization that The Clave doesn’t even know about !
And this makes Joceyeln and Luke’s inaction even worse. When the attack broke out, The Clave actually blamed the Downworlders for the attack (more about that later). If Jocelyn and Luke actually got off their asses and sent an anonymous tip to The Clave, then they would have immediately known that it was The Circle who was responsible for the attack.
Beyond that, I still have to wonder if The Clave knew about The Circle, and just decided to do anything. And If The Clave really did know something about The Circle and their activity, then I now have to ask why didn’t The Clave take The Circle’s actions seriously?
So in the end, nothing about this passage, hell this chapter makes any logical sense! This chapter accomplished nothing expect to add more unanswered questions and add to now unending loop of plot holes.
