Is this Clary being jealous of anybody who shows even a hint of attraction to someone she’s romantically interested a going to be an ongoing theme throughout the rest of the series? It’s already getting old real fast. However, I want to go deeper into the whole jealousy thing. I want to talk about how Clary relates to other girls and women for a moment.
Admittedly, at the same age, I actually related more to men than women. And that’s perfectly fine, however I keep getting a feeling that Clary either hates or feels completely indifferent to most other women. I don’t have any real evidence to prove my theory, but the subtext I pick up when Clary interacts with other women often diffidently gives me that impression.
Now get back to the whole Jealousy thing. Jealously can be a fun trope to play with, but the fact that this is the second time that Clare uses Clary’s jealously as a device for Clary finally figure out her feelings really annoys the fuck out of me. Then add in the whole misogyny subtext, and you can easily see why Clary’s jealously pissing me off so much.
And one more thing: Jace just admitted to being a conceited asshole. Yet, Clary is still fawning all over him, and is still going to fall in love with him. Tell me why Clary is such a role model for young girls again?
ETA: I just realized that I misspelled Forsaken on the quote cards. I have since corrected them, but this post and the previous three posts will still have the misspelled chapter title. Sorry about that folks!
