So yeah, this really astounds me. It shouldn’t, because it already been shown that the shadowhunter community as a whole are a bunch xenophobic elitist assholes. Who I respect more than anyone right now is Isabelle and Maryse. It takes a lot courage to go against a long tradition of sexism to achieve yours goals
So yeah, I tip my hat to the Lightwood women for doing that. However, this sexism really doesn’t paint the shadowhunter community in a good light. They subjugate and oppress downworlders for being they who are, and now it’s revealed that also they also tend to do that with people in their own community. It’s completely disgusting and wrong. And I hope (although with Clare I only a little hope) that this issues is continuously addressed and talked about through the rest of the books.
I also want to talk about Clary’s comment about Maryse teaching Isabelle how to cook. I find sexist that Clary is expects Isabelle to learn cook just because she’s a girl. I would rather had Clary ask if Maryse taught any of her children how to cook.
