When Jace is not talking about his own greatness, all he seems to talk about is the Covenant. And I can say pretty confidently now, that no one, not even the greatly lauded Shadowhunters follow the goddamn Covenant. It’s a freaking joke and everyone in the Shadowworld knows it!
How many Downwordlers have we encountered since the beginning of this book? The answer is a hell of a lot, and I can guarantee you that none of them have really kept the Covenant. I mean look at Dorothea, Magnus, The Vampires, and now the Werewolves . They didn’t care that breaking into Vampires’s lair was essentially breaking the Covenant, and would actually allow The Vampires to retaliate. They didn’t care they could be igniting a Vampire vs. Werewolf war, which is proof positive that the Covenant is complete and utter bullshit.
Also, let’s talk the enforcement of The Covenant. As I said in an earlier post, there are only three under trained Shadowhunters to protect the entire city. Hodge, despite having the most experience can’t even join them out in the field because of The Clave’s punishment for his crimes as a member of The Circle.
The Shadowhunters are ridiculously outnumbered, so they can’t logically enforce their laws or protect the Mundane citizens of New York City. Actually, I haven’t really seen Alec, Jace, or Isabelle make any effort to do their own freaking job. Everyone attention has been centered around Clary since the beginning of the book. Seriously, do they even they patrol? Do they take out Demons anymore? Do they make sure that the Downworlders are adhering to the law? The answer to all those questions is no. Everyone attention in this book has been on
The answer to all those questions is no.
In the end, all I can say is this: if their job is indeed to protect humanity, then god help humanity.
