I also want to take this time to talk about the Mortal Cup. Why did Valentine decide to come out of hiding right now, especially since he has been in hiding for at the very least the entire time Clary has been alive. Valentine is not at all subtle, so it would have been more than obvious to anyone with a half a freaking brain that Valentine and the cup were both still out there! In my opinion, this is yet an another important question that needs to be answered to make the plot of this book seem more plausible. And this question diffidently needs to be answered by the end of this book.
I also want to talk about these two idiots we see here in this passage Pangborn and Blackwell. With the robes, and now with their names it’s more than obvious that these two morons might as well be walking around with a sign on their back that says: “I’m evil, ask me how?”
Add on to the fact, that at the most all they show Luke is some thinly disguised bravado, and thus both Pangborne and Blackwell were easily intimidated when Luke stood up to them. Also, let’s not to forget to mention that they were once again just enthusiastically confirming not only to Luke (and by proxy) Clary, Jace, and the shadowhunters community that Valentine is indeed alive and well. They (and again along with Valentine) have to be the most inept villains I have seen since Snidely Whiplash.
What I have really liked to have seen Clary and Luke have a real father-daughter relationship or even an Uncle-Niece relationship. And when Valentine’s minions eventually track Luke down, they would either severely injure him or kill him off all together. In my opinion, that would added great dramatic tension, gave Luke an actual purpose for being in this book and also would have forced some much-needed character growth on Clary. Unfortunately, we got this bullshit instead. *sigh*
ETA: I was going through my notes and I forgot to mention that Pangborn and Blackwell was revealed by Jace to be the ones to kill his father. So like that is supposed to make up for the fact that they basically ran away like two dogs with their tails between legs when Luke got into their faces about his decision to flee from New York City. *snort* Not bloody likely!
