So first of all, I’m sorry. I promised you that I would do Shadowhunter Reviews, and I know there are only a few episodes left until the mid-season finale.I was finally feeling well enough to finish up the review I missed and start on the new episode. Truthfully, I had been dreading watching this episode. Actually, as this season continues to go on I have been more and more dreading watching the episodes.
I was willing to ignore the torture, I was willing to ignore the horrible climon and clace love triangle bullshit (although I was still going to drag it). I was actually going to try to grit my teeth and suffer through the whole ‘Isabelle is a drug addict out of nowhere storyline’. Even, though to be honest the whole damn thing is racist as fuck and it I hate with a passion of a thousand burning suns. However, my stopping point is the Raphael/Izzy romance and how toxic it is. How, not the even the writers, hell not even Emeraude Toubia (Isabelle) and David Castro (Raphael) don’t see what’s wrong with it.
For me, this storyline with Isabelle and now Raphael is more than I can bear. As someone who does have two younger siblings who have been battling drug addiction since they were teenagers, as someone who had to raise drug-addicted babies as a result of that addiction; this storyline is fucking insulting and triggering as hell.
Then add to the fact, that off-site I’m dealing with the trauma of the Trump presidency (and I’m sorry to get political but it’s true) and that fuckery and the books as well? And I have to finally put my foot down.
I also believe that as a part of the audience and/or fandom, it’s not my responsibility to heap praise and to be a part of a fandom that constantly disregards our opinions and insults us. And this season from the show writers killing Joceyeln to reducing Malec’s screen time have been a complete and utter insult. And I refuse to sit here and take it. I didn’t take it when Teen Wolf did that to me, I didn’t take it when Sherlock did that to me, I didn’t take it when Joss Whedon did that to me with both Avengers and Buffy and Angel, I didn’t take it with White Collar, or Suits as well. And I refuse to do it now. I’m the type of person to not just sit there and take it when another person insults me. I’m the type of person to tell that other person to fuck off and leave.
I will continue to reblog, retweet the show, but I refuse to watch the show until they get their shit together. I will be concentrating on the books and dragging their usual brand of fuckery via my sporks. I also plan to do a podcast with my new partner, editor, best friend, and partner and crime Mel. During the podcast, I will be discussing and recapping in full every chapter of this damn series. So stay tuned for further details on that.
TL;DR : I won’t be watching and reviewing Shadowhunters until the cast and crew get their shit together. I will be continuing with my sporks, though. I’m sorry, guys!
