It’s another two panel day. So there is going to be a lot to go over today, so let’s get straight to it folks.
First off, I did a little research and Roosevelt island is a very real place. It’s actually a narrow strip of island between Manhattan and Queens and people do live on the island. And to my surprise it was really called Blackwell’s Island’s at one point and time. And she was correct about that the island was actually a quartianteened area for the poor people affected with smallpox. So I will give my kudos to Clare on doing any modicum of research.
However, despite all of her careful research, Cassandra Clare made one big mistake. The same mistake she made with Park Slope. During the period that this book takes place, the whole area was going through a period of gentrification just like Brooklyn was at that time. You would think that a big creepy looking building like that would be on the city council’s list to buldoze. Because Roosevelt Island is prime real estate due to it’s location. So how did it slip through the Mundane authortiies’s notice?
Because Blackwell, may have owned Renwick’s, but that was a long time ago and you would think that it belongs to a new owner or it belongs to the city of New York. And you would think that either of them would be hoping to get rid of it.
Now, let’s move on from that little research fail, I now want to talk about how stupid Valentine is. Of all the place to hide out, Valentine picks the most obvious place to use as his lair. It’s public historical record that Blackwell once owned the island, and anyone would think to look for him there. Because Investigator usually looks at all the places connected to not only Valentine, but to any of his known associates. What a utter dumbass!
