“Fine. You win. We should never have come. I should never have made that Portal—”
“Made a Portal?” Isabelle looked bewildered. “Clary, only a warlock can make a Portal.
And there aren’t very many of them. The only Portal here in Idris is in the Gard.”
— City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
Chapter 6: Bad Blood
Wow, so one sentence just blew another hole in the credibility of Cassandra Clare’s entire world building. First of all, one portal of all of Idris? Then how did all the Shadowhunters of the world get to Idris? That is awfully a lot of work for one portal, and we have already seen that a portal can only work once at a time. So again: How did all of these Shadowhunters get here?
It surely wasn’t an airplane, because modern technology doesn’t work in Idris because Clare was too lazy to think outside the self-made Harry Potter box she wrote herself in. There is no logical reason why the wards interact with technology in Idris but not in other Institutes.
My other big thing is if Warlocks are the only ones who create portals. Then how does special snowflake Clary Fray was able to make one? How were the Shadowhunters in Idris able to create one in the Gard for that matter? I know damn well Warlocks didn’t voluntarily make one, especially after we have seen how Shadowhunters treat Downworlders. So as I previously laid out, none of this makes sense and Clare once again is full of it.
