“Yesterday,” he said, in a low voice, “when I brought Simon up to the Gard,
Malachi told me Magnus Bane would be meeting Simon at the other end of the Portal, in
New York. So I sent a ɹre-message to Magnus. I heard back from him this morning. He
never met Simon in New York. In fact, he says there’s been no Portal activity in New York
since Clary came through. […]
Then I heard him talking to one of the guards. Telling them to go bring the vampire upstairs because the Inquisitor wanted to speak to him again.”
“Are you sure they meant Simon?” Isabelle asked, but there was no conviction in her
voice. “Maybe …” […]
“They were talking about how stupid the Downworlder had been to believe that they’d
just send him back to New York without questioning him. One of them said that he couldn’t believe anyone had had the gall to try to sneak him into Alicante to begin with. And Malachi said, ‘Well, what do you expect from Valentine’s son?’” […]
City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
Chapter 6: Bad Blood
If you are like me and you judge people by not only how they act but also who they associate with then these snippets really don’t reflect well on Aldertree. Aldertree picked the chattiest minions ever. Seriously, how dumb are they? They were just chatting about Aldertree’s plot in public, and then we are supposed to be surprised someone overheard them? Yeah, right!
My other issue is that Malachi made it all too easy for Alec to catch him in a lie. Why did he say Magnus Bane would wait for Simon on the other side of the portal? You already know the Lightwoods are acquaintances with him. Hell, he was the one they paid to open a portal for them in the first place.
It makes it way too easy for Alec to call Magnus and check on them. Speaking of, Didn’t Alec say in the last chapter that he couldn’t contact them? Then, howAlec easily calls Magnus via fire call to check? Seriously, Alec said this last chapter? Clare is too damn lazy to even go back a chapter re-read what she wrote. *facepalm*
So basically, what all of this boils down to that just like everything else in this godforsaken book all the plots have been dumbed down because Clare didn’t want to exert any effort in actually making it plausible without plot contrivances.
