“It wasn’t a fire.” The voice was soft, velvety and familiar. A tall figure materialized out
of the shadows, hair sticking up in a corona of ungainly spikes. He wore a black silk suit
over a shimmering emerald green shirt, and brightly jeweled rings on his narrow fingers.
There were fancy boots involved as well, and a good deal of glitter.
“Magnus?” Clary whispered.
“I know what you were thinking,” Magnus said. “But there was no re. That smell is
hellmist—it’s a sort of enchanted demonic smoke. It mutes the eects of certain kinds of magic.”

Chapter 2: The Demon Towers of Alicante
Excuse me, what?! Didn’t I just scream Friday about how Downworlders are not allowed inside the Insitute? However, Magnus is just there chilling in the dark by himself like a creeper? The Lightwoods didn’t get on their cellphone and tell Magnus to leave? Unless Idris doesn’t have a thing like freaking cell service or landline? However, since these guys get around on horse and buggy it wouldn’t fucking surprise me.
Also, The Clave didn’t think to maybe get someone to open a portal to defend the New York Insitute at all? Again, if Shadowhunters are everywhere, then there must be Shadowhunters in New Jersey or hell as far as Boston or Washington D.C.?
This has to take place several hours since the attack and only Magnus Bane (a Downworlder no less) is there to defend it? This makes no sense!
Speaking of nothing making sense, what exactly is Magnus doing there anyway? This was the location of an attack by Forsaken sent obviously by Valentine. Anyone with even an inch of self-preservation would be high tailing the hell out of there. Yet, Magnus is staying why? Even though Magnus is powerful, he can still be overwhelmed by numbers as evidenced by the earlier fight with the Forsaken.
In the end, Just like always Clare half-assed wrote something without really thinking about how to make it seem logical. Again: Logic, we don’t need no stinking logic!
