A few minutes later the towels were hanging over the bar at the foot of the bed and Clary was regarding herself in the mirror with surprise and not a little amusement. The gear it was tight but not too tight, and hugged the curves of her legs and chest. In fact, it made her look as if she had curves, which was sort of novel. It couldn’t make her look formidable —she doubted anything could do that—but at least she looked taller, and her hair against the black material was extraordinarily bright. In fact—I look like my mother, Clary thought with a jolt.
City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
Chapter 5: A Problem With Memory
This is an overlap post because you have seen this passage in the previous post. However, I really want to discuss another angle that I really deserved its own post, First of all, is it me, does this have a feeling of a little kid playing dress up in their parent’s old clothes?
Seriously, Clary is in this gear and thinking: “I was made to be a Vampire Shadowhunter”. I will immediately put on the gear and know how to best use it like Clary was Neo from the Matrix. When this is supposed to take place in a real world. Where you have to practice over and over again to gain any effectivity with skill.
It’s been three months since this shit began (and no I don’t give a shit about what Clare says because she is revisioning history for all she is worth) and she should take the experienced Shadowhunters aside demand that she should be taught at the very least how to defend herself. Again, bookstans give the TV show a lot of shit for not following the show %100, but this is one thing they did much better. They actually showed Clary training way before this part of the overall story. Now, I would agree we should see her constantly learning and training in the show. However, compared to book!Clary’s training? Yeah, way better than book!stans give the show credit for.
Basically, she is a child playing dress up right now. Clary is sneaking out because again she is arrogant to think she knows everything about Idris and how the Shadow World operates. When in fact, she knows nothing about nothing. Honestly, the reason why she is in this predicament right now because she thinks she knows everything.
And I know from my own experience that teenagers do think like this, but I would think that once a teenager fucks up as badly as Clary has, that they would maybe stop the behavior that got them in this amount of trouble in the first place. Especially, since Clary is supposed to be a super special snowflake. Honestly, she is about to run around a foreign city in a foreign country that quite possibly speaks another language than she. Although, since Idris certainly doesn’t make any sense when it comes to its language and culture, she gets a free pass on that. However, she still doesn’t know where she is going and she is on her own with no way to defend herself because remember she lost her mother’s stelle?
What about this whole situation is a good idea? Seriously, Clary is fucking brick dumb and should be ashamed of her own arrogance and stupidity.
