THE COLD SNAP OF THE PREVIOUS WEEK WAS OVER; THE SUN was shining brightly as Clary hurried across Luke’s dusty front yard, the hood of her jacket up to keep her hair from blowing across her face. The weather might have warmed up, but the wind oʃ the East River could still be brutal. It carried with it a faint chemical smell, mixed with the Brooklyn smell of asphalt, gasoline, and burned sugar from the abandoned factory down the street.
Simon was waiting for her on the front porch, sprawled in a broken-springed armchair. He had his DS balanced on his blue-jeaned knees and was poking away at it industriously with the stylus. “Score,” he said as she came up the steps. “I’m kicking butt at Mario Kart.”
Clary pushed her hood back, shaking hair out of her eyes, and rummaged in her pocket for her keys. “Where have you been? I’ve been calling you all morning?”

Chapter 1: The Portal
Before I jump into this sporking, I want to make an announcement. I will be a little late with the first podcast due to work and real life issues making made me get behind schedule. I know I keep delaying my promises, but my real life has been crazy lately. Hopefully, the delay won’t be too soon, but I swear the moment the podcast is ready to be published I will post it here.
Welcome back, my beautiful peeps! It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? I missed you guys, and shout out to one special peep who just been giving me awesome feedback, Mar B! You guys support is what keeps me going,
Oh my god, here we go ‘ City of Glass’ and okay this passage really makes me want to roll my eyes. This is, in fact, the first few paragraphs of the book. There is no attempt to hook readers, nothing that really grabs a reader. I think this might be too soon to tell, but it feels to me that Clare has really stopped giving a shit at this point. I know, I know, I ranted about it in ‘City of Ashes’ but here we get a mediocre description and no real hook. I’m not really impressed!
By the way, I would like to point out that there is no prologue. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with an extra chapter. We do get a time skip (a week) and unfortunately for all of us, this means we don’t really get to first hand see the consequences of what happened at the end of ‘City of Ashes’ play out. Oh, we get a neatly summarized explanation of what happened, but it really pisses me off that Cassandra Clare just continues to cheat her readers out any interesting bits of her books, and then she replaces with the love triangle of doom.
As a long time fangirl, it really burns my buttons when fandom creators mistreat their fans. This is Clare is really showing everyone that despite all the flattery and big talk that she couldn’t give a shit about her readers!
