“You knew what would happen, didn’t you? ‘They’ll send you right back to New York,’ you said. No problem. But they never had any intention of doing that.”
“I didn’t know.” Jace met his eyes through the bars, and his gaze was clear and steady. “I know you won’t believe me, but I thought I was telling you the truth.”
“You’re either lying or stupid—”
“Then I’m stupid.”
“—or both,” Simon finished. “I’m inclined to think both.”
“I don’t have a reason to lie to you. Not now.” Jace’s gaze remained steady. “And quit
baring your fangs at me. It’s making me nervous.”
City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
Chapter 7: Where Angels Fear to Tread
I have mixed feelings because, on one hand, Jace is admitting that he’s a dumbass. If you read all my sporks up to this point you know that I have often called a himbo the masculine take on the bimbo trope. Honestly, if this was a human AU Jace would be the guy that would be all muscle and zero brains. I have been saying this from the beginning and it tickles me pink that Cassandra Clare just admitted it.
However, on the other side, it makes me want to headdesk. I don’t know how no one including Jace thought that the Clave was going to do right by Simon. It’s been evidenced over and over again through this series that Nephilim/Shadowhunters treat Dpwnworlders like shit.
It would only take someone with an ounce of common sense to see through that whole charade and come up with a backup plan to get Simon out of Idris. Seriously, why does everyone in this goddamn series have to be rock stupid?
