“We’re hardly as certain of anything as all that,” said Maryse Lightwood. She had been standing in the shadow of the corridor doorway, unseen by either of them; she moved forward now, into the harsh entryway lights. They illuminated the lines of exhaustion that seemed to draw her face down. Her husband, Robert Lightwood, had been injured by demon poison during the battle last week and had needed constant nursing since; Clary could only imagine how tired she must be. “And the Clave wants to meet Clarissa. You know that, Jace.”
“The Clave can screw itself.” […]
“The question isn’t whether you’ll be any trouble; the question is whether you’ll be willing to meet with the Clave while you’re there. They want to talk to you. If you say no, I doubt we can get the authorization to bring you with us.” […]
— “City of Glass” by Cassandra Clare
Chapter 1: The Portal
I have been saying from the jump that The Clave is just as idiotic as Valentine is. I have also been saying since the beginning of ‘City of Ashes’ that Clary should have been interrogated by The Clave., However, the Inquisitor just gave her a complete pass to chase Jace instead.
Everyone seems to forget that as much as Jace is Valentine’s son, so is Clary. Yes, Jace was raised by Valentine, but as far as The Clave knows Jocyelen is just as bad as Valentine. Especially, since Jocyelen was not only Valentine’s wife but ran away from The Clave after he originally faked his death.
As far as I can tell, a Shadowhunter running away from The Clave is virtually unheard of. You would think that it would make The Clave even more suspicious of Jocyelen and by proxy Clary. It seems to me that Jace is getting all the heat and none of it is being projected on to Clary.
Also, I find it hilarious that they are making Clary visiting him a request when for everyone is going back to Idris mandatory. Clary is a fucking Shadowhunter, but just like the sue she is, she gets a request.
And another thing, I find that The Clave is willing to trust ex-circle members to teach and integrate Clary into their world. Especially, when according to Jace the Shadowhunter’s numbers are dwindling. They need every Nephilim they can spare, and logically they need to do their best to indoctrinate into her their way of thinking so they can turn her into a good little soldier. Yet, they are waited this long to bring her Idris, and it’s still not a demand but a request?
Again, The Clave is complete and utter dumbasses!
