Okay, so now that we are over the fucking of the fade to black scene. Now, let’s further discuss this whole nonsense of Clary using the open rune and talk about the results of that. I actually went into a bit of it earlier, but now want to go more in-depth.
First and foremost, the way that Clare wrote this makes it seem that it wasn’t Clary herself that powered the rune. She made it seem like it was the Seelie Queen, which makes zero sense. I mean, did the Seelie Queen lend Clary some of her power? And why would the Seelie Queen intervene in this way, and not go after Valentine full force in person? Also, if she wanted to intervene she could have at least lent The Shadowhunters some of her faes soliders for the battle.
Again, am I the only one who feels that this should have been a joint operation between the Shadowhunters and the Downloaders? Unfortuantely, the only Downworlders we do see in the final battle is Luke, Magnus, and a tiny bit of Maia.
Honestly, instead, all of these roads to nowhere we got, were no storylines but one ( more on that later) was resolved. Instead, the main subplot of this story should have been about Clary, Jace working to gain the Downworlders’ trust and securing them as allies for the battle.
To frankly sum this up, this is very passive action on the Seelie Queen’s part.
Also, this totally takes away Clary’s thunder. Clary is supposed to have saved the day. Yet, instead of us seeing that (which would have given us a solid emotional impact) and now we hear that it wasn’t the force of Clary’s emotions or hell even her some special ability to save the day, It was actually the Seelie Queen was responsible for it.
And finally, talking about destroying the ship. I find it suspect that the ship would burn down and sink so fast and so completely that we now see no trace of it. This could have easily explained if we actually got some type of time reference from Clare.
All in all, Clare has failed as a writer because none of her explanations in the narrative make a lick of sense!
