Does anybody with a brain buys this shit you for a minute? Seriously, you can probably feel every bit of her insincerity in this passage. Clary doesn’t give a shit about Simon, the most recent example of this is when she literally forgot that her best friend went through a traumatic experience. Yet, I’m supposed to believe that she cares about anyone other than herself?
In the end, this is just another way for Clary to make the situation about herself! Also, I find it kind of funny that she just suspects Simon to stop living his life just because she did. Also, is it me, or does this passage have a little bit of petulance in the subtext? Maybe it’s the tone of this passage, but I can’t help but have the underlying feeling that Clary is upset that Simon’s world does not revolve around her more than it already does.
Honestly, this little bit here was supposed to convince us that Clary is a thoughtful and giving person. In the end, it just really cements my earlier impressions of Clary a thoughtless and selfish girl who needs constant attention to be happy.
