First of all, once again fuck you, Cassandra Clare! Don’t YOU EVER IN YOUR LIFE make any Arthurian references in your books. I will slap you will all my copies of my favorite Arthurian books and movies and you will not like it. Don’t make me unleash my inner mythology nerd on you!
Now, that I gotten that out of the way. I have another thing to point out. Again, I try not to personally attack Clare. I do try to take the high road for the most part. However, Clare is so dumb that once again even her characters are pointing out how ridiculous Valentine’s motivation and this so-called plot is.
Seriously, neither Valentine nor any of his lackeys for that matter never discussed him wanting to go after anything other than the ‘Mortal Cup’. No one in this damn book even mentioned the idea that there were alternative usages for The Mortal Instruments in either this book or the last book. Magnus knows about this ritual, but I’m pretty sure by the subtext in these snippets that both the Clave and Inquisitor have no idea that their own sacred relics can be used against them. Yet, the Inquisitor and her squad are just running around the city like chickens with their heads cut off.
Again, this proves my earlier claims that The Clave is just as incompetent as Valentine himself. Even after the original theft of their most sacred relic, no one in the Clave considered to secure any of the other Instruments themselves and put them in a safe location. No, they just stuck to status quo.
As for Valentine’s motivations and plans in this book. I have already screamed ad nauesum how it makes no sense that the Mortal Cup, something with pure angelic essence gives the wielder any control over demons. By all rights, demonic energy and the angelic should cancel each other out. Clare has yet to give us an explanation on as why this is not the case. However, with the sword it makes a bit more sense. However, I still find it illogical that Valentine hasn’t STILL made any steps to creating his child army, even though he went through all that trouble of getting the cup, just for that reason. Yet, now apparently he doesn’t care about the cup or creating his child army at all.
Maybe it’s just me, but I believe that you should complete your first objective, before moving on the second one.
I could have kind of understood his logic, if Valentine was just making sure he had more allies. Yet, still find it hypocritical that he wants demon aide at all. Especially, since Valentine is supposed to despise the Downworlders for their demonic blood, yet hypocritically he is actively using Demons to his dirty work. However, Valentine hasn’t made ANY headway into building his child army of Shadowhunters. I know I have a hard time completing what I start, but this just takes the freaking CAKE!
