This is exactly where Cassandra Clare takes Clary and Jace (who was already a Mary and Gary Sue respectfully) and power them up to eleven. I come spoiled by the way of my bad ass editor Melissa who has already who gave me all the deets. I know this is a tangent, but I have to say I’m both dreading and excited to see if this story arc is going to be just as horrible as she said it was going to be.
Anyway back to this passage, this is lazy as fuck. We see no build up to all of this, and no I’m not counting Clary suddenly recalling runes. I’m not counting it because Clare made it pretty clear that Clary remembered the runes the way she did was as result of Magnus’ memory spell and it was the memories that were coming back.
No, this is just Clare once again dropping off a reveal like they were bombs—with no to little build up She did that all throughout ‘City of Bones’ and no one shouldn’t be surprised she is still doing it here.
One last thing, though. I want to point out that this is basically turning the somewhat interesting character of the Queen and turning her into a Deus Ex-Machina plot device. Not only is that a huge mistake on Cassandra Clare’s part, it’s also an another rookie mistake. You would expect Clare would have learned her lesson by now, but I guess not!
