I said this a few weeks ago, but I have to ask: WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THE SECURITY IN THESE PLACES? Seriously, Jace is locked inside his cell, but he is still being handcuffed to the bars? I know they used to do that back in the medieval times but this book takes place in 2007. I know that Shadowhunters are supposed to be better than us, but as I pointed back in ‘City of Bones’ their society is CENTURIES behind mundane society on both a social and technologic standpoint. Now, I have another issue I have with this passage with this whole scene.
He knew that the cell had a flagged stone floor, that three of the walls were hewn rock, and that the fourth was made of narrowly spaced electrum bars, each end sunk deeply into stone. He knew there was a door set into those bars. He also knew that a long metal bar ran along the east wall, because the Silent Brothers had attached one loop of a pair of silver cuffs to this bar, and the other cuff to his wrist. He could walk up and down the cell a few steps, rattling like Marley’s ghost, but that was as
far as he could go.
If some of the prisoners broke out or someone prisoners broke in then why is there no there no alarm going off, why are there no security forces defending this prison? This is yet another world building fail on Cassandra Clare’s part. How can Clare fail this hard with even the tiniest thing? Does Clare really care at all or is she unthinkingly just pulling all of this out of her ass?
