Welcome back, guys! Did you have a nice weekend! This week, we are tackling Chapter 12 of ‘City Of Ashes’. From here on out, we are going to do two-week chapters, because each chapter is full of fuckery that I am duty bound to cover Also, fair warning to everyone, this has to be the worst chapter of this entire book. So it’s chocked full sexism, racism, idiocy, and full of mary sue types of shenanigans. So buckle up, peeps! It’s going to be a long and bumpy road!
I’m going to fucking killing things. How many times peeps, HOW MANY FUCKING TIMES DID I SCREAM ABOUT THE LACK OF POV CHANGES. And then we are suddenly getting this Simon POV chapter scene that is not at all meaningful and gives us zero insight to Simon’s own personal story arc.
No, Cassandra Clare’s reason for writing this POV change is very clear: She wrote this POV change so Simon can wank over how skinny and beautiful Clary is. Not to mention, all the wanking Clare wanking over Clary and Jace’s forbidden love.
And no, I’m not attacking Clare’s weight. I’m a plus size girl my damn self, so that would be beyond hypocritical. I have been perfectly clear from the very beginning that I will not throw personal insults at Clare, and that includes her weight. No, the only reason I’m bringing up the topic of weight is that Clare brought it up first and suddenly too. She is literally and unashamedly having Simon wank over how skinny, and beautiful herself self-insert is.
This is such an old mary sue trope. Like I told you guys at the beginning of this post, this chapter is choked full of sueness. This is the most basic of sueathor tactic there are folks. And the cherry on the top of this fucked up sundae is that Clare has written Simon of all people, waking poetic over Jace and Clary’s romance.
And this comes after three chapters previous when Clary cheated on him with Jace RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. This is so out of character and jarring that it gave me whiplash. And it made all too clear to anyone with eyes what the real purpose of this scene was. Clare is not even trying anymore, and that is pretty sad.
