You know it’s going to be a long chapter when there is yet another two-panel post. The reason why I used two panels is because I wanted you guys to see exactly how many times all the characters are jealous in this particular chapter. This shit right here, once again, ripped straight out of the Stephanie Meyer playbook.
No one who is in a relationship trusts their partner. No, this is not only hyperbole on my part, this is fact as evidenced by the passage. The jealous and possessive behavior of the characters in this chapter is concrete proof of my claims. I know that they are all teenagers, well save for Magnus, and really he is more than old enough to know better, but you would think that someone in this book would have just a little bit of emotional maturity, especially with what they do on a daily basis. Seriously, does anyone in this godforsaken book really think that their partner is just going to throw themselves at another person right in front of them?
Not only does this behavior shows an amazing lack of trust on the characters end. It also shows that they really don’t have any respect for the person that they are in a relationship with. It’s pretty much a given, that, without respect and trust you can’t have a healthy relationship. It does not matter what type of relationship you are in. Familial, romantic, or platonic. You need to have trust that the person you are with, no matter what. If you can’t do that, the relationship will fall apart completely and you lose the person entirely. This shit is like high school all over again.
This is the reason why the relationships in these books are so unrelatable to me. I firmly believe if this wasn’t clearly Clare’s self-insert fantasy, and this was actually happening in real life that none of their relationships would last for very long. If they did, they would end up abusive in some way. Every one of the relationships in these book series is toxic, unhealthy, and it makes me sad to see this so regularly written.
