Ugh, Jesus, this is Cassandra Clare trying to be funny again. When I have proven over and over that she can’t write humor for shit. I’m all for humor, but this is less than three chapters away from the ending. As a writer, Clare is supposed to be racking up the tension for the climax, but no let’s stop the plot for a few pages to make Alec (her only gay character by the way) the butt of a unfunny joke.
*coughs* Gay ally my ass! *cough*
Also, I would like to point out that this is totally fucking with her pace. It’s just like ‘City of Bones’, the closer Clare got to her climax the more she did to screw up any possible tension her audience is supposed to be feeling. If I was her editor, I would have told Clare point blank to cut this out altogether.
One last thing, I find it a little ridiculous that Isabelle is so mad that Alec didn’t stand up for Jace in front of the Inquisitor. If Clare hadn’t purposely dumbed down Isabelle, she might have been smart enough to realize that the Inquisitor has complete and utter control over the fate of her family. With one word, the Inquisitor could completely destroy Isabelle and her entire family. And might have been the reason why Alec didn’t stand up for Jace. Besides, Isabelle like usual is taking Jace’s side no matter what he says or does.
Isabelle not once called Jace out for his horrible actions and coddles him instead, which is one of the reasons Jace is such an asshole today.
So now it’s comedy hour which totally fucks up the pacing in my opinion. Also, Alec and Isabelle do completely useless arguing for the sake of arguing while Jace watches silently in amusement.
