You know what? I wouldn’t have a problem with this if this part actually took place back in the ‘City Of Bones’ and NOT SHOVED THREE-QUARTERS FROM THE ENDING OF THE SECOND BOOK! Seriously, we should have been told this piece of world building back when Clary and the gang were dealing with the forsaken?
I honestly, I thought the rule was that anyone who gets runes on them that didn’t have Shadowhunter blood in them would turn into a forsaken? Maybe I’m wrong (and of course you guys feel free to correct me) but I didn’t see her make this distinction back in ‘City Of Bones’. So to me, this feels like yet another retcon.
Now, I have come up with a loophole to this new rule. What if someone’s distant ancestor was Shadowhunter? If Jace is anything to go by, Shadowhunters have no problem having sex with people outside of their sub-race. I won’t buy any protestations that this shit has never happened before in the past. So again I’m going to ask: what happened to those who people who are branded with the runes who are distantly descended from a Shadowhunter? Do they become a forsaken, or do they gain the power of rune?
Again, this is a serious loophole in her canon! I once said that Clare only world builds on the surface, without thinking about the implications or the long term consequences of what she is creating. This is once again proof that I was absolutely right.
