You are so wrong, I can’t even believe how wrong you are. How do you not know what emotional maturity is? Why are you so stupid, Cassandra Clare? Having things that you regret is not a sign of maturity or growing up you dumb-ass it’s part of everyone’s life no matter what age or your maturity level.
However, emotional maturity is taking responsibility for your own actions, and owning up to your mistakes. Emotional maturity is putting people’s feelings and welfare over your own. Emotional maturity is listening to other people’s opinions, even though you disagree with them. Emotional maturity is thinking about the consequences of your actions before you act.
Does any of that in any way describe Clary’s current personality or actions? No! Before anyone tries to say that Clary takes responsibility for her actions, I would like to quickly point that yes, she does blame herself for things, but those things are mostly not her fault. However, it’s not because she truly believes that she was actually to blame for what she did. No, just like Bella Swan, Clary blames herself to make herself look oh so selfless and humble. When in fact, it’s evident to anyone with eyes that Clary (and Bella) are the most selfish pieces of shit ever written.
This is where, Clare not writing any true characterization, and character development for Clary is really biting her in the ass. This scene could have been Clary legitimately realizing that she is not the same person she was back at the beginning of City of Bones. Instead, like always it just once again looks like Clare is trying to TELL us what we should think about Clary instead of actually SHOWING us.
