So I screamed about this last week when it was alluded to by Luke that Simon should tell his mother. However, I’m going to point this shit out again because Clary is making it all too clear that she really wants Simon to tell his mother. And don’t think for one second I didn’t catch that newborn Simon is actually living with his very human mother. I’m saving that rant for later.
Was Clary dropped on the head as a child or what? SIMON COMITTTING SUICIDE IS NOT HER FAULT. Yes, I know there are some things such as survivor’s guilt, but this feels different to me. It really feels Clare is trying to say that Simon suicide was really Clary’s fault, which is a horrible theme. No, just because the person who has an obsession with you killed themselves, it still doesn’t their suicide your fault.
Yet, it’s undeniably true that Simon’s initial encounter and the later kidnapping by the vampires is partly on her. Clary told Simon, a defenseless human at the time, about the Shadow world and he ended up getting a situation that he had no way to get out of. Clary and Jace told Simon and never, not once, considered the consequences of what might occur by telling Simon. But Simon was the one who made the conscious choice to go into Hotel DuMort and commit suicide.
And now after all that happened to Simon as a result of Clary telling him about the Shadow world. Not only Clary but Luke (who is supposed to be the level-headed adult here) is actually advocating for Simon to tell his mother about the Shadow world. No one cares that telling Simon’s mother might be put her in danger. No, it’s just too hard for Simon to keep this secret, so of course, Simon is going to tell his mother. I just can’t get over how stupid, irresponsible and callous everyone is in this book. It’s freaking disgusting.
