I just went into a long diatribe in the last post about how Jace obviously doesn’t give one shit about Alec. This is just another bit of proof to my earlier claim. Jace doesn’t at once stop and worry about putting an experimental rune on his paratabi. Anything can happen with the rune, it could easily have other side effects other than the intended effect of stripping someone of fear.
Does Jace stop and thinks about this? No, he’s all too happy to put the rune on Alec. This also doesn’t put a good light on Alec and Magnus’s so-called relationship. Magnus is the oldest person in the room, and not only that he is currently in a relationship with Alec. Magnus with all of the wisdom of his immortal years does not at all object to his boyfriend being experimented on. No, he just sits back quietly and watches. He doesn’t try to even give a token objection.
Again, if that was my boyfriend or my brother in this type of situation I would be objecting loudly to this entire process. This passage really shows us that no one in this damn novel gives a damn about Alec. So I have to ask again for what seems the thousandth time: Why is Alec even here? The only logical answer to that question is to be gay so Clare can pat herself on the back and collect her gay ally card at the door.
