So, welcome back you guys! This week we are tackling chapter 3 of ‘City of Ashes ‘ and believe me it is no less headache inducing than the previous chapter. So strap in guys, and grab some aspirin because I can pretty much guarantee that you’re going to need it.
In this post, in particular, I’m going to point out the biggest issue with not only this passage but with this overall chapter.
This chapter is very short, and normally I wouldn’t necessarily care that it short but despite its name, it does not feature the Inquisitor. This chapter is in fact pure unadulterated filler. Cassandra Clare is up to her old games of padding her word count again.
In my opinion, this chapter has a lot of unnecessary exposition. Clare is stopping what little plot this book has to once again to sit her readers down for another story time. No, it is not as blatant or as infuriating as what she wrote back in chapter 21 of ‘City of Bones’, but it’s frustrating that she is still writing like this.
I mean, it is one thing, to write just one crappy book. Every writer has written at least one crappy story in the span of their career. God knows that I have! But one of the biggest reasons I drag Clare so hard all the time is that she continues to double down on her horrible writing. It’s very clear that Clare is not making any considerable effort to improve as a writer.
I know that I keep talking about this subject ad nauseam, but no matter how much I despise Clare I still want her to be better than this.
