Trigger warnings: for discussion of stalking, and nice guy™ tactics.
So, this is another two-panel post. I especially wanted you guys to read these panels twice because I want you folks to experience the all of the creepy and possessive subtext that scene has to offer.
Seriously out of all the characters in this book, I really wanted to like Simon the most. He is actually seemed to be a favorite character of the antis. However, any fledging liking of this dude goes straight out the window when he starts this nice guy™ bullshit once again.
I especially want to take some time out to talk about how creepy, and possessive he sounds. This scene here feels like it was ripped straight out of a stalker handbook. I kid you not, I actually got chills when I first read this scene.
This scene does not sound as if Simon is truly in love with Clary. In this scene, it actually sounds like Simon feels that he is entitled to Clary’s love because he put in the effort in being her friend for all these years. And not only that, because they are friends, it means that Simon apparently owns Clary. To Simon, Clary is just a possession to be gained.
THIS IS NOT LOVE! This is creepy and wrong and in no way should Cassandra Clare be glorifying this type of thinking! And before some of you Cassandra Clare stans come up in here and try in any way to defend this bullshit: I would like to remind you once again that not only Clare presents herself as a feminist, but also this book series is targeted towards young girls. I’m going to say it once again for the people in the back: As an author in the young adult genre, she has a responsibility to not be perpetrating this damaging messages to young people.
I’m done! I can’t with this guys! This is just completely disgusting and once again I want to take a silkwood shower!
