What was the point of this pamphlet? I don’t know if it was just me, but is Luke really suggesting that he pull another mundane into this situation?! This is just after they had a close up look at what might happen to them if they a brought mundane into this dangerous world.
If that’s not the point of this fucking pamphlet, then it doesn’t make sense. How does being gay in any way resemble vampirism or even a vampiric lifestyle? It just does not compute to me. The cherry on the top of all of this fuckery is that this was all played up for comedy.
Well, I don’t find this funny and Cassandra Clare can go fuck herself.
*Melissa’s comment: Seriously using a pamphlet to come out to your family as a vampire is fucked up. Even if it’s just idea on how to have the conversation. It’s not comedy, to even suggest this method especially when people still get killed for who they love or who they happen to be sexually attracted to, or even if you aren’t sexually attracted to anyone.
I get that he might want to live as normal as possible but for fucks sake this is not the way to do this. The shadowworld is dangerous and isn’t the point of the Shadowhunters to keep the two worlds as separate as possible? Luke was a Shadowhutnter and Clary wants to be one. Both of them should know this and come up with an actual plan to help Simon. Telling your family about anything that is not normal is hit or miss how well it will go over. We don’t know what Simon’s mother is like, she could have a deep-seated fear of vampires and think of them as unholy monsters and then he won’t have a place to live or any family.
This happens all the time just for who people love. Imagine how you would react to learning that all of the monsters that you read about are real and that your child has been turned into one. Clare also is showing she isn’t any type of ally cause fucking hell just this isn’t funny. Coming out is hard no matter what. Doesn’t matter what you are coming out as. Whether it’s your sexuality, romantic inclination, or gender. Hell, even just introducing your family to a significant other can be hard, there are families out there who still believe that interracial marriage is a bad thing. There are parents who will disown their child for marrying someone who isn’t the same race or does not belong to the correct sect of a religion. Guys this stuff happens all the time, and it’s not getting better. I didn’t laugh at this scene any of the times that I read this series. My feelings towards this scene have gotten more negative since I started learning more about sexuality and how people, in general, are perceived.
