This is Cassandra Clare once again trying to make her world look oh so cool without putting any real thought into it. Yes, a dark ship is pretty menacing in theory.
Unfortunately for Clare, it makes zero sense.
In this passage, Clary is insinuating that just like the demonic motorcycles that I have ranted about a thousand times up to this point, this ship also runs on demonic power. Ugh, how about no? Because Clare has yet to get off her ass and actually fucking explain why any Shadowhunter can ride on anything that is manipulated with Demonic energy without there being any negative reactions. This is based on Judeo-Christian theology. And according to that theology, Demonic and Angelic things tend to have adverse reactions to each other.
Clare has yet to say why this is different in her book. And yes, Clare shouldn’t have to explain every little thing about her series’s world. Hell, I wouldn’t most authors this much flack about it. However, unlike a competent author Clare has shown herself to be a lazy hack over and over again. So, I’m not cutting her any slack.
The other problem I have with this passage is how stupid Valentine is for just rolling around in the dark. If anyone had gone looking for the boat, the most conspicuous thing about the boat would be that it’s just rolling around in the fucking dark. It’s basically should have a blinking neon sign saying: Evil Lair.
Basically, this is just stupid all around and I want Clare to actually stop and put some thought into her own canon for once.
There are no lights on at the ship? What is just chilling around in the dark? Serously? And what exactly is hie powering it on>? Demon power? Cause it isn’t like he’s not angel spawn.
