Oh, Jesus, we are going to have another exposition chapter. Yes, it’s only for half of this chapter, but still useless exposition. *sigh* Usually, I don’t mind if an author gives us a chapter of character interaction and development: especially after emotional and action packed chapter. Unfortunately, this is after Cassandra Clare wrote chapters after chapters chucked filled with exposition in ‘City of Bones’. So no, I will not cut Clare any slack in this damn book.
Also, Clare thinks that she is just so slick that she can just slide in a plot recap on the sly. Look how Clary nicely summed up all of what has happened in this book so far. As I said yesterday, if this book was actually written by a competent writer and not by a fucking hack this could have been an emotionally moving scene between Clary and her mother.
However, this is the only time onscreen that we have seen Clary visit her mother (and no I’m not counting that bullshit flashback we got back in Chapter 2). Then the cherry on the top of this shitty situation is that Clary clearly makes the conversation all about her and problems. Which basically kills any emotional impact this scene would have otherwise had.
No, in the end, this wasn’t supposed to be an emotional scene, it’s just a barely veiled plot recap. Clare has to hold our hands through it because even she knows that her audience probably doesn’t remember BECAUSE THIS GODDAMN BOOK HAS NO FUCKING PLOT!
