THE WRITING OF THIS BOOK WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN possible without the support and encouragement of my writing group: Holly Black, Kelly Link, Ellen Kushner, Delia Sherman, Gavin Grant, and Sarah Smith. I also couldn’t do without the NB Team: Justine Larbalestier, Maureen Johnson, Margaret Crocker, Libba
Bray, Cecil Castellucci, Jaida Jones, Diana Peterfreund, and Marissa Edelman. Thanks also go to Eve Sinaiko and Emily Lauer for their help (and snarky commentary), and to Sarah Rees Brennan, for loving Simon more than anyone else on earth. My gratitude goes out to everyone at Simon & Schuster and Walker Books for believing in these books. Special thanks to my editor, Karen Wojtyla, for all the purple pencil marks, Sarah Payne for making changes way past the deadline, Bara MacNeill for keeping track of Jace’s weaponry stash, and my agent, Barry Goldblatt, for telling me I’m being an idiot when I’m being an idiot. To my family as well: My mother, my father, Kate Conner, Jim Hill, my aunt Naomi, and my cousin Joyce for their encouragement. And for Josh, who is less than three
— “City of Ashes” by Cassandra Clare
CASSANDRA CLARE WAS BORN IN TEHRAN AND SPENT MUCH of her childhood traveling the world with her family; on one trek through the Himalayas as a toddler, she spent a month living in her father’s backpack. She now lives in Manhattan, New York, whose urban landscapes inspired City of Bones, her début novel. She says,“In fairy tales, it was the dark and mysterious forest outside the town that held the magic and danger. I wanted to create a world where the city has become the forest—where these urban spaces hold their own enchantments, danger, mysteries and strange beauty.” City of Ashes is the second in The Mortal Instruments sequence. Cassandra is currently working on a prequel trilogy. Before becoming a fulltime novelist, she worked as an entertainment journalist in Hollywood; her ambition is to never have
to write about Paris Hilton again. She has her own website, at: www.cassandraclare.com

About the Book
We are finally done for the week. Now on to the real wank-fest, which is you wouldn’t normally think would be in the acknowledgements of any book. However, Cassandra Clare is a freaking suethor from head to toe.
As I said back throughout this book, that Clare has left behind any pretense that this book is not her self-insert wank fantasy. This the final evidence of that. This is Cassandra Clare feeling herself, because she is name dropping all of these well-known young authors.
Stephanie Meyer did the same thing in her own acknowledgements for most of the “Twilight’ books. It’s basically an old and tried suethor tactic, “Look, I’m a real author because hang out with other famous Authors”.
It’s the ultimate tell and not show and not tell and it’s pretty digusting.
I think unlike, Meyer, Clare is very aware of her criticisms and this her way of trying validate herself as an Author and it’s her once showing how petty she really is. This is really her trying to rub her fame in her hater’s faces. To be honest, I don’t give it shit. This a thirteen suethor on fanfiction.net type of thing and honestly unlike Clare I do have some maturity. To me, this is the equivalent of my toddlers having tantrum when can’t get what they want.
I honestly would have just passed this bullshit by, but this acknowledgement so full of Clare’s own arrogance that I couldn’t pass it up without comment.
Now finally, let’s talk about the about the Author blurb. In the back of book of Clare’s, her publishers love to point out how well l traveled, and educated she is. They also love to point out that Clare was so inspired the New York City, the city she did live in for quite a while that she made it her primary setting
And in the true marketing way, never mentioning that nine times out of ten she would get basic facts about her city wrong. You guys remember, Luke living on the waterfront Simon living in a standalone house in Brooklyn the whole bullshit about Park Slope. For being so well traveled, and so well educated and living in one of the most beautiful cities in the country Clary knows nothing about absolutely nothing.
Speaking of Clare knowing nothing, let’s talk about for such a experienced writer Clare obviously does not care about basic writing tenets such as creating of coherent plot, or have to create solid world-building, or hell she doesn’t have a clue about creating a three dimensional character and all the characterization that goes with it
I can’t write fiction, I just don’t patience for it. When I was considering writing, I did take the time to read as many writing books and articles about writing as I could. Because I love reading and I have a respect for the craft writing.
Cassandra Clare does not have respect for the craft writing. This book, hell the acknowledgements and the author blurb proves to me without a doubt that she categorically not give one shit about the craft of writing. I have always said, that for author’s like Clare, it’s not only the money, and the fame that compels people her to write. For her, Clare feels a need to live out her self-fulfillment wank fantasy through her writing and she doesn’t give a damn about anything else.
Now, I’m done with this bullshit. I will be sporking an outtake from this book that I found on Clare’s site (Lord help us all). I will be also writing a full review of this book after Christmas, so please stay tuned for that. Once again, I want to thank all of you guys for supporting both me and this blog and I hope you and families have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy Holidays!
