Trigger Warning: This post will have explicit incest between two minors. If you find that triggering in any way please give this post a pass.
You guys remember what I said yesterday, about why the whole long argument over who was going to kiss who wasn’t funny? Yeah, this shit was why. All of that kerfuffle was to set up this kiss. Clare could not care less that Jace and Clary are supposed to be brother and sister. No, Clary is going to have her romantic kiss with the boy of her dreams — no matter what it takes.
Again, I’m not into censorship of any of sort. I believe mature people have the right to read whatever the hell they want. But, I would like to remind the metaphorical people in the back, that a good portion of Cassandra Clare’s target audience are children as young as eight. I actually have both an eight year-old and a twelve year-old girl, so this bothers me on a personal level. I would have been pissed off to find out about my kid reading something like this. This is why I actually advocate the use of trigger warnings or content warnings. For a moment I was triggered myself. This is romanticizing incest and I don’t think that, that is something children need to have romanticized.
Yet, it’s obvious that Clare doesn’t care in the slightest because whatever the great Cassandra Clare wants, she gets.
Beyond the incest, I want to point out how this kiss is ten times more genuinely passionate and emotional it than anything between Simon and Clary. Again, this continues to make my think that Clary relationship with Simon is nothing more than emotional prostitution. If Clary is physically intimate with Simon, then Simon will continue to worship the ground she walks on.
Once again, this confirms my earlier statement: There are no genuinly healthy relationships in this series.
