Trigger Warning: Force Outing.
You know what, Jace hasn’t really gotten on my nervous a lot in this book. For the most part, it has been Clary that has been getting on my last nerves. However, this little stunt, makes me really want to kick Jace in the balls!
Jace grew up in the Shadowhunter’s world, and he knows damn well how homophobic The Shadowhunter’s community is, but he’s just going to out Alec like that anyway? What a fucking asshole. This is not the way to treat someone who’s supposed to be practically the other half of your soul, your partner, and your fucking brother. And once again the cherry on the top of this fuckery is Cassandra Clare is once again trying to play this all for comedy.
How many fucking times do I have to say it: COMING OUT IS NOT A JOKING MATTER! People have been ostracized, shunned, harassed, beaten up and killed for coming out. Even when your family is liberal there can be blowback while coming out. My own mother (who has always been progressive told me )”that I was too nice to go to hell’ when I told her I was queer. Coming out is not funny, and personally will never be funny or made light of. Again, yet I’m supposed to kiss Clare’s ass because she wrote a gay character. I’m supposed to ignore how she treats said gay character and how she makes fun of coming out.
For Clare, people like me, QUEER PEOPLE, are always just a joke to her or a tool to prop Claire’s faux progressivism.
