So I waited to talk about this until now, because this Clary/Jace bullshit has gone far enough for me to actually comment on it with some certainty. I can say with a lot of certainty that Clary and Jace have the romantic chemistry of two cardboard boxes sitting next to each other. I thought when I was first watching Shadowhunters, that the fact that Clary and Jace have zero chemistry was strictly on the actors themselves having zero romantic chemistry. However, I’m now coming to see that it’s a writing flaw.I’m saying this as someone who generally loves a relationship that is full of snark and banter. I am especially a fan of the hate-love relationship tropes. However, Clare was trying to make Clary and Jace’s relationship like Castle and Beckett’s (Castle) or Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy’s relationships. However, Clary and Jace’s relatonship continues to be as entertaining as the those two boxes I earlier described, because their relationship is horribly written.
First of all, Clary and Jace might be attracted to each other, but I have only seen Clary concentrate on Jace’s physically attributes, and ignore that he’s a complete doucheconoe. Since I’m more knowledgable about the tv show Castle than the book ‘The Pride and The Prejudice’; I’m going to show the main differences between someone like Rick Castle and Jace. The main difference is that unlike Jace, Rick Castle has freaking redeeming qualities that Beckett slowly over time begins to see.
You see, Rick Castle can be an arrogant, conceited, and a bit of a know it all. However, what makes Rick an actually likeable person is that despite all of his flaws, he is a clever funny, loyal, compassionate person that loves his friends and family. I have said this again, but I’m going to state for the record that what makes the love-hate relationship work is that the heroine has to see beyond her love interests obvious faults and fall in love with his redeemable qualities. JACE HAS NO REDEEMABLE QUALTIES!!! SO THIS IS WHY THIS RELATONSHIP FAILS ON EVERY LEVEl!
