Wow, so any street cred that our main antagonist Valentine had before is now gone. Also, I didn’t talk about earlier but I’m going to talk about it here. Valentine is such a weak name for a villain. When Clare filed off the serial numbers of her fanfic ‘The Draco Trilogy’ into the ‘City of The Bones’, at the very least she could have given him a more menacing name. It makes me laugh more than it makes me shiver in my boots. I would have been able to ignore the god awful the name, if this antagonist was at all scary at this point. Voldemort for example, was scary from the get go. It was in the way that people were literally afraid to speak his name, it was in his heinous actions and how even his followers were literally terrified of him.
So far we have seen two demons working for Valentine, and both seem to care little about the possible consequences of not following his orders. I can excuse the first demon, because I think he knew that he was about to die. However, I can’t excuse this demon who obviously have the advantage, but still spilling all of Valentine’s business. Now, I concede there might be an excuse for the demon in this chapter. This demon is primal and working purely on instinct. However, it would have been prudent on Valentine’s part to put some type of spell on this thing to keep it from letting the demon tell anybody that Valentine is alive.
This is why Valentine makes an ineffective leader in my opinion.
