Oh my god guys we not only just finished this chapter, we have finished Part I of this book. Let’s pat ourselves on the back. We both deserve it. So now, before I go on my much-needed hiatus. Let’s go through the three things I loved about this chapter!
1. Church The Cat
Church is awesome. Seriously, every time I see him I legitimately smile. Admittedly, I was influenced by the show and that cat’s gorgeous bitch face he gave Magnus during the episode “The World Inverted”. However, in this instance, the books actually match up to the quality of the show. I mean, I was totally here for Church continuing to just not give any fucks about Jace and just does what he wants. I mean Church pretty much made it obvious that he was only going to do what Jace says only because he felt like it.
2. The Isabelle and Jace’s Interaction.
Again, I actually really liked Isabelle and Jace’ interaction. They interaction felt really natural and it really felt like two siblings arguing. I totally lol’ed when Isabelle called out Jace by his full name. However, my favorite of their interaction is when Jace said something really insulting to Isabelle, and Isabelle got into his face, and Jace wisely backed the fuck down. Again, I just love when people (especially women) put Jace in his place!
3. Maryse’s Awesome Backstory
This is actually one piece of exposition (and exposition coming from Jace of all people) that I actually really liked. Turns out that female Shadowhunters being in the field is a relatively new thing. Maryse Lightwood, Isabelle and Alec’s mother were one of the first few women Shadowhunters in the field. And it really made my little feminist heart sing to read that. To be honest, I rather would read Maryse’s story and her struggles with coming up in a very xenophobic and sexist culture and her overcoming that instead of the utter tripe that is in this book.
So that’s three things that I loved about this chapter. So guys, did you like this chapter? Or were you like me and hated it with a firey passion of a thousand suns? Please let me know in the comments.
